TRANQUIL MIND COUNSELING

Tranquil Mind Counseling is owned and operated by Whitney Weiss, LCSW

I grew up in Salt Lake City, where I raised three children, and now enjoy a quieter, more intentional life in the mountains with my husband and our two dogs. Outside of work, I stay grounded through simple joys—hiking mountain trails, gardening, crafting, and cooking. I also love traveling to experience live music, which continues to be a source of creativity, joy, and community in my life.

I have worked in the mental health field for 15 years, and my path to becoming a therapist is deeply personal. Early on, I made a promise to myself: to become the kind of therapist I once needed—someone who could listen with compassion and walk alongside others in their healing. My own therapeutic journey has shaped not only my work but my life, reminding me of the importance of presence, balance, and authenticity. This ongoing process allows me to meet clients not only as a professional but as someone who truly understands the courage it takes to do this work.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned on my journey, it’s that healing rarely happens without support.  It is a process that asks us to humble ourselves and ask for help. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to heal in this way and I am honored to support others while they engage in their own process.

Growth, Healing, and Opportunities

It’s important to remember that diagnoses were created for insurance and administrative purposes—they’re not labels that define who you are. A diagnosis simply describes a collection of symptoms or patterns you may be experiencing.

My focus is on understanding you—your unique experiences, story, and strengths—not on defining you by a label. Together, we can use this information as one of many tools to support your healing, growth, and self-discovery.

I work with individuals navigating both life’s challenges and opportunities for growth, including:

  • Depression and anxiety

  • Relationship challenges and codependency

  • Stress and life transitions

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Parent-Child dynamics

  • Building self-esteem and confidence

  • Discovering purpose and meaning

  • Developing personal and spiritual growth

  • Cultivating healthier relationships

  • Creating balance and fulfillment in daily life

Modalities

In individual therapy, I draw from a variety of evidence-based modalities, always through a trauma-informed lens and rooted in the importance of relationship. My work is founded in attachment theory, which means I view healing as something that happens within safe, supportive connections. I often integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help shift unhelpful thought patterns, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to build resilience and reconnect with personal values, and Motivational Interviewing (MI) to support meaningful change. I also incorporate mindfulness practices to cultivate presence and emotional regulation. Depending on the individual, I may weave in psychodynamic insights to explore deeper patterns, as well as solution-focused strategies that highlight strengths and practical steps forward.

The heart of my approach is focused on creating a safe, collaborative relationship where clients feel understood, empowered, and supported in their growth.
